Trekking in High Atlas – and the Summit of Jebel Toubkal 4167m
On this trip, the goal is to reach the summit of Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa, 4167m. This is a spectacular trekking experience, and beyond the fantastic trekking, you will experience the green and also rough mountains, deep valleys, waterfalls, and small Berber settlements. The local people up in the mountains are hospitable, and this part of the trekking gives the whole trip an extra value. You don’t need special training for climbing Toubkal—just be in ordinary good shape. This trip is also for those who are not keen on climbing Toubkal but just want to enjoy the nature and life in High Atlas. We make trips especially for you.
Day 1: Imlil – Armd 2151m
We pick you up in Marrakech in the afternoon, and take you on a 1h30m trip in the High Atlas mountains to the small Berber village called Imlil (here is where they filmed “The Seven Years in Tibet”). From here, it’s a very small walk to the even smaller neighboring village, Armd, where you will have dinner and lodging in a guest house with a view of Toubkal.
Day 2: Armd – Valley Azzaden 2500 m
You start the trip after breakfast, but first, you meet your guide and the mules and muleteers. Today’s trekking goes partly through green and beautiful nature, slightly ascending. During the trip, you will have lunch prepared by your new friends, the muleteers. Then the trip continues, passing Tizi N’mzik (2500m) until you arrive in the afternoon to a stone camp in the Azzaden Valley. Dinner is served, and then sleep.
Day 3: Valley Azzaden – Refuge of Toubkal 3206m
After hopefully a good night’s sleep and a fresh breakfast, the trekking continues ascending in an even more scenic and spectacular nature with green parts and stony mountains. You will be served lunch during the trip. After a long day with the mules and muleteers, you arrive at Neltner Refuge, the base camp before climbing Toubkal.
Day 4: Refuge of Toubkal – High Peak in Toubkal 4167m
Very early in the morning, it is time to start the climb of Jebel Toubkal 4167m. There is a tough ascent of 3h30m before you finally reach the summit of Jebel Toubkal. It is really worth the effort when you on a clear and sunny day can enjoy the fantastic view. The trip down will be like a Sunday afternoon walk after this fantastic experience. The trek goes via Tizi N’Ounoums and back to Neltner Refuge. This afternoon, you can just enjoy your efforts and that you have reached a goal. In the evening, there will be dinner and sleep at the cabin at Neltner.
Day 5: Refuge of Toubkal – Imlil (back to Marrakech)
Today the trekking goes back to Imlil through beautiful and partly lush terrain via Sidi Chamharouch 2275m, and a small Berber village. You will be back in Imlil in the afternoon – and a new adventure is ended. After a short break, we will take you back to Marrakech.
