Desert tours from Marrakech: Departing early in the morning from your riad/hotel in Marrakech, we drive through the High Atlas Mountains over the Tizin’Tichka Pass (2260 m), the highest road pass in Morocco, offering spectacular panoramic views of mountains, valleys, and colorful Berber villages. Traveling southwards, we stop on the way to visit the kasbahs of Tamnougalte and Ait Benhaddou. With its UNESCO-listed spectacular Kasbah, Ait Benhaddou is a famous site for Hollywood movies shooting such as Gladiator. The trip continues through the palm-lined Draa valley with a stop in Zagora for a tea break before heading towards the desert of M’Hamid, where you can spend the night in a hotel in Zagora.

After a nice breakfast, you do a 2 hours camel ride in the midst of the desert. Around 10:30, you are picked up there from the 4×4 and you will travel through a beautiful desert landscape to Oasis Sacrée (holy oasis) for a lunch break. The Oasis Sacrée consists of a small group of palm trees around a source in the midst of the desert, with running water the whole year. The nomads come with their herds for soaking. At 16:00, departure. After a further 15 km, we reach the dunes of Chegaga. This largest group of dunes in the region reaches a height of 300 m on a length of 40 km. We spend the night directly in nomad tents at the dunes after a New Year’s Eve party, dinner with entertainment. A night that comes alive to the rhythms and chants of the drums, castanets, and guitars played by nomads, Sahara traditional music. Inspired by the African spirit of dance combined with Arabic rhythm… In the core of the Berber campsite, we will have a big fire, where we gather to share food, laughter, celebration, and friendship.

After a leisurely breakfast at the luxury Sahara desert camp, the adventure continues off-road in your 4×4 vehicle. Crossing the dried Lake Iriqui, through river beds and rocky desert for about 3 hours on the old Paris-Dakkar rally route until you reach the main tarmac road from Tata at FoumZguid. Here we will stop at a delightful guest-house in the oasis at the foot of the Jbel Bani mountain ridge. You can enjoy the pool and have a light lunch before continuing to the village of Tazenakht, famous as a regional center for Berber hand-woven carpets from different tribes of the High Atlas. Then heading back to Marrakech passing by the High Atlas Mountains Tizi N’Tichka. We arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon to your riad.
